Renewable power generation in Estonia totalled 402 GWh in the third quarter of 2018, covering 19% of the country’s total demand, shows data by transmission system operator (TSO) Elering.
The output of Estonia’s renewable energy facilities was almost 20% higher than in the year-ago period. The increase reflects the improved wind power production to 143 GWh, which rose by 10% in annual terms and accounted for 36% of the total renewable energy output.
Biomass, biogas and waste-to-energy were the leading renewable energy sources in the July-September quarter, producing 253 GWh of electricity. This represents 63% of the quarterly renewable energy generation.
The output of hydropower plants (HPPs) was only 1 GWh, which was a result of the low average precipitation levels. Meanwhile, production from solar parks came at 5 GWh.
